Install default replacement TS3

Da SimsCri Simpedia.

Default replacement are files that overwrite default ones. Often they are textures, used to overwrite default textures such as skintones, faces, and so.
This kind of files overwrite default resources for each instance: if you download and install a skintone default replacement, this will be applied to all sims in your game.

Alarm ico.gif WARNING!!
Remember you can install just one default replacement file for type. For example just one replacement for body skin, just one for faces, etc. If you find a new file and you prefer it, you need to delete the old file you are using before install the new one.

Default replacement files are always and only in .package file type. The installation process is the same of the .package files, plus some consideration.

Installation

  1. Before install a new default replacement file, check if you have already one of the same category (skin, face, ...). If you have already one, delete it before proceed.
  2. Install the default replacement file by following the guide to install .package in The Sims 3
  3. Once done, you should clean your game cache. You need to delete some files, go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3, and delete:
    • simCompositorCache.package
    • compositorCache.package
    • scriptCache.package
    • CASPartCache.package
simCompositorCache.package for example is the cache file related to faces and skintone, but to make this guide and the installation process easier, you can delete all cache files and force the game to re-create them.
  4. You have done, start the game and check.

Tips

Since you can use only a default replacement for type, organize your default replacement in a folder and store here a preview picture of it too. When you will find a new file you could compare it with your replacement in use, and choose what file you prefer.
