Inspiration

On Living Sims mag, issue nr. 16, you can find a really useful article about how to take great internal designs pictures. But when you approace a wallpaper creation, some things are a little different and here below I will try to give you some tips.

Basic Rules

  1. Rule of Thirds:Rule of Thirds - an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections.
But... keep attention to follow the other tips!.

  2. Fill your scene: a poor scene is a bad scene. Use a lot of OMSP to place more objects on surfaces and use some useless deco objects! Keep attention to not lose the sense of your scene while filling it!

  3. Lights and color contrast: play both with light and with the contrast! Use artificial shadows to make your photo more natural.

  4. Perfect Pose: if you're making a screenshot with one/some sims, it's so important choose the pose to make sense. You can choose between a really large number of Pose box, but use also the pause mode and the slowmotion to keep your shot exactly when all it's perfect!
  5. Leave some space for icons: it's really annoying lose your icons on a invasive background. Leave some corners where people can place their icons, if you want create a really useful and beautiful wallpaper! You can frame your main pictures on a plain background, you can change the opacity on the corners, you can play with gradiets.. there are a lot of way to keep a compromise between a wonderful image and a useful wallpaper!
  6. Resolution and orientation device-dependent:you can't use the same image both for PC and some other devices like mobile phones, IPad, IPod, etc. You should think it depending on the device resolution.
    Usually,
    • PC Wallpapers: landscape oriented, width > height. You should keep attention to 16:9 or 4:3 resolution. Keep in mind that is easier resize a big picture toward a small one.
    • Cellphone, IPod, IPad, etc.: portrait oriented, height > width.
